Zain, a new Jordanian Comedy that’s worth watching

I am enjoying watching Zain, Saba Mubarak new comedy show each night on Abu Dhabi TV.

I like it in particular because it feels progressive in presenting the female characters. I like that the main character is the bread winner for the family and I like the modern wardrobe of the cast in general, which is closer to what people in Amman dress than we ever have seen in a Jordanian drama.

I like the reflection on Amman’s society by incorporating Egyptian, Syrian and Philippians characters in a very respectful and decent way. The showing of these characters is done very smartly despite the comedy nature of the show. It doesn’t fall into the trap of exaggerating known stereotypes. In the contrary, it breaks those stereotypes in a subtle welcoming way.

The work of Mohammad Hushki, the director, is clear on the characters especially the main one played by Saba Mubarak. This may be a positive thing that distinguishes his work from others and gives it a certain feel.

Wish all the best for the cast. Hope it helps opening the door for the revival of Jordanian drama.

Well done Tima Shamli. Thank you for producing this.

The show plays on Abu Dhabi TV (Al Aula), Sunday to Thursday  (9:00pm, 2:00am, 8:00am, and 3:00pm). Reruns on Abu Dhabi  TV (Drama) on Friday for all weeks (episodes starting 2:00pm).
I hope to see it on Ro’ya TV or any other Jordanian TV channel soon.

  1. I like the show, been watching it since episode 1. I didn’t feel the first 2 or 3 episodes were that good but it got better after that, Saba is amazing and I am actually proud that this is produced by Jordanians. We can finally compete with the Lebanese and Egyptians 🙂

  2. I enjoyed watching “Zain” A lot, it really impressed me, Saba is wonderful and the team is so nice and spontaneous, i believed them and felt them so much.
After all these years, a jordanian work is back on TV, to reflect our culture, life and dialect, in a very lovely way, it made me feel that we are alive and we do exist.
Personally i feel that “Zain” is my success, i have been talking about the jordanian drama and the talented actors and actresses we have for a lot of time, and this was a proof, and people around me from different cultures and nationalities were really impressed, first of all by the beauty of Jordan and amman, they loved the dialect so much, and they were surprised that it’s their first time to hear it on TV.. Many of them didn’t understand everything as they don’t speak arabic, but the story in general touched their hearts.
Those are some of the impressions & opinions that i heard myself, and there are much more.. I am really happy and proud, and i do wish from the bottom of my heart that Zain grows, to produce another season, and for this beautiful team to find the support needed to use their wonderful talents.
