   I love the fact that censorship is supported by people. It just goes on to prove that most people are politically ignorant. I have very little sympathy for people who get abused by their government, because it has been shown throughout history that people support bad policies, and then complain about the bad results. It is crazy.

   Bad economics is caused by the people. Corruption is caused by the people. Poverty is caused by the people. Lack of freedom is caused by the people. There is an old saying: “Ignorant people are their own worst enemy!”. Even in the US, for example, the people who get elected are those with the worst policies that should never get elected. But ignorance is pervasive. People respond to politics that appeal to emotions, not the politics that appeal to reality, logic, or reason. The movements that get support are usually motivated by emotional appeals, almost the same way that TV advertisements work. They are designed to appeal to the largest number of people (because it is a democratic system after all), with little or no regard to what the real effects of such policies are going to be. Very few people are going to consider that censorship will not stop the viewers of porn, and more importantly, how such a system can be easily abused by the authorities in the future.

   If the government at a later point of time starts censoring legitimate materials, like opposing political viewpoints; The blame is not on the government, the blame is on the people!! In my view, the government is an innocent victim when that happens…

   I am still in shock by those people who want the gov to sensor the internet not knowing that they are using it as an alibi for something worse than pornography websites!!

   and SERIOUSLY, an addiction! man, kids at school used to bring PRINTED porn material before they get introduced to the internet, let’s be realistic here!

   and all of these rapping issues, they’ve been around ever since the world has been created, who are they kidding, it was there before even inventing the computer, COME ON PEOPLE!!

   Devil’s Mind, “Ignorant people are their own worst enemy!” is the best that can be said describing everything! Thank you man 🙂

   DM, I would blame ignorance, not people.. it is true what you said but how would people break out from this kind of culture? Do we really need to fall down and feel its pain the hardest way before we wake up and learn from our mistakes?

   Suleiman, it is funny how we have a government that is more progressive than the people! I don’t know if there are other examples around the world where people actually pressure their governments to take some of their freedoms away! Sad actually!

   Ignorance is a state of being. People choose to be ignorant. The information is out there, they are just not willing to learn from it. How do you blame ignorance, when people have a legitimate choice between ignorance and learning?!

   “How would people break out from this kind of culture?” – They need to be willing to self-educate about these matters. There is lots of materials on those subjects out there, they just need to want to learn, and be a little prepared to have their convictions challenged. If you look at elections, people in Jordan don’t vote based on political ideology, they just voted based on blood relationships. The closest person to their family origin. And even if they were going to look at ideology, they are not educated to know the merits of different ideologies, they have no grounds to make educated choices.

   And it does not have to be the case that the people pressure the government to take their freedom away, it can be as simple as doing nothing about it. A prime example is the Patriot Act in the US, which is basically taking away from the American people their constitutional rights. And why was the US government allowed to do it?! Because its stated goal is to fight terrorism. The Patriot Act allows the government to wire-tap communications, to indefinitely detain suspects without trail, and many other horrible things. But people buy it because they want to feel security. Oddly enough this is the very same thing that their founding fathers warned them about. I said that quote several times before, but that quote never ceases to be relevant: “Any society that would give up little liberty to gain little security, would deserve neither and lose both!”. Of course, this quote comes from people who studied history and knew what they are talking about. But ignorance is pervasive!

   And it also applies to our situation. People want a false sense of security (security from “moral threats”), they are not going to get that security and they will lose their liberty as well. They deserve neither liberty nor security!

   “God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. … What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” – Thomas Jefferson, written in 1787!!

   I read that and it is exactly what is going on in the Arab Spring. Yet it seems that people are already willing to betray the liberty that they were fighting for! The more and longer people wait to rebel against the tyranny of their governments, the more bloodshed would be required to correct those mistakes… If we’d go with Jefferson’s advice, we need something like the Arab Spring every 20 years, just to keep the government and its officials on their toes!

   سلام فادي
   المشكلة يا صديقي العزيز بأن من يريدون حجب مثل هذه المواقع سيتهمون من يرفض فرض الوصاية على الإنترنت بأنهم يشجعون الفساد الأخلاقي. السعودية تمنع المواقع الإباحية، و هذا قاد كثيرين إلى تنزيل برامج اختراق (هاكر) و كثيرون منهم (ليس الكل) ممن يأتون إلى دول عربية أخرى لا تمنع فيها هذه المواقع مثل الأردن و مصر يفعلون أشياء كانت ممنوعة في بلادهم نتيجة للكبت الشديد. كل الدول الإسكندنافية تسمح بهذه المواقع و مع ذلك نسبة الجرائم بشكل عام و الجنسية منها بشكل خاص هو منخفض للغاية. الفصل الشديد بين الجنسين في رأيي هو أشد خطرا و قد يشجع على ممارسات مثل زنا المحارم و الاغتصاب.

   نقطة مهمه: لمن تعود السلطة في تحديد ما هو اباحي من المواقع مما هو علمي أو تثقيفي او طبي, فمن الناحية الفنية يتم حجب المواقع الاباحية و نتائج محركات البحث اعتمادا على بعض الكلمات التي تدرج في المواقع الاباحية, و لكن هذه الكلمات قد تدرج ايضا في مواقع طبية أو علمية أو حتى في بعض المواقع الاخبارية, بينما بعض الكلمات البريئة الاخرى قد يكون لها معان او ايحائات جنسية بينما هي كلمات طبيعيه
   يتظاهرون الآن مطالبين الحكومة بتقييد الانترنت و بعد قليل سيتظاهرون مطالبين الحكومة بكف يدها عن الانترنت
