Launching L’Epouse D’Amman in Paris [Photos]


I finally had the chance to travel to Paris for a quick visit where I met “L’Epouse D’Amman” translator Davide Knecht, editor Thomas Scholari, and publisher Philippe Thiollier (and his lovely mother who started the publishing house and proof read the French translation), as well as Clara Pero who is handling the communications and PR at L’asiatheque and doing a wonderful job at it.

Philippe kindly hosted me at their bookstore L’asiatheque for a book launch event where we read few passages from the book in both French and Arabic, presented the story and characters, and discussed the topic the book tackles. It was a very lovely night and we had a beautiful crowd. And I was particularly happy to finally meet Cheryl Toman, Professor of French and Chair, Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama, which was a very pleasant surprise. Cheryl contacted me more than a year ago informing me that she has been teaching the book to her students and planning a visit to Jordan for the group. At the time I couldn’t make it to Jordan, neither did they as covid happened. Fortunately, we had the chance to meet in Paris. My good friends Naji Haddadin and Mohammed Sleeq joined and Naji put on the photographer hat and took these beautiful shots (more photos on my Instagram page).

I had also the chance to pass by L’Institute Du Monde Arabe bookshop and Gibert Joseph bookstore, and was happy to see them selling the book.

شريهان كوكو شانيل، عمل مسرحي بمستوى عالمي


شريهان.. في إعلان فودافون، فاجأتنا بعودتها، أسعدتنا في لمحة إعلانية أعادت لنا ذكريات جميلة لا تنسى. كنا متشوقين نشوفها، وندقق فيها وفي ملامحها وفي صوتها. هل تغيرت بعد كل تلك السنين؟ هل سنعرفها ونشعر بها مثل ما عرفناها وشعرنا بها في طفولتنا؟ وأكيد للوهلة الأولى بتعتقد إنها تغيرت ولكن بعد لحظات بتشعر فيها هي هي، وبتشوف روحها وفنها واحترافها زي ما كانت وأحسن كمان، ويتركنا الإعلان مبسوطين ولكن مش شبعانين منها.وبعدين شريهان..

في مسرحية كوكو شانيل، عمل فني على مستوى عالمي. عمل ممكن يحمل اسم شريهان وممكن يعرف عنها أكثر من أي شي عملته في الماضي، عمل أكبر من الفوازير والاستعراضات وكل المسرحيات التي شاركت فيها في السابق. كل تفصيلة مشغول عليها، ولا لقطة ابتذال. عمل مشغول للفن وعشان الفن، وهو مش بس مسرحية بانتاج ضخم يناسب عودة فنانة بحجم شريهان للساحة الفنية، بل عمل يضيف إلى تاريخها وتاريخ المسرح المصري والعربي. لا أعتقد أن المسرح المصري شهد عملا بهذا المستوى من الاتقان من قبل. في كوكو شانيل شفنا شريهان وحسيناها وشميناها وتذوقناها وحضناها. لم تحرك كافة حواسنا فقط بل أيضاً حركت عواطف من الماضي وأحلام ماتت فينا وارتقت بذوقنا بفنها وأناقة كوكو شانيل وخشبة مسرح يقر بأن هذا اللون من الفن خالد لن يموت.

شريهان نذكرها من زمن العمالقة.. اليوم هي العملاقة.. هي “الفنانة” بأعمق معاني الكلمة وأبعادها.

Rencontre avec Fadi Zaghmout, l’auteur de l’Épouse d’Amman


It is confirmed. I will be in Paris on 20th of July to do a book signing for the french version of “Arous Amman” (L’Epoouse d’Amman“). It is the first time for me to do a book event in Paris and I am very much excited about it. I am happy to be hosted by the publisher of the book l’Asiatheque.
