UK Study Alumni Global Award Finalist – Social Impact

I am happy to be selected as one of the finalists for the UK Study Alumni Global Awards 2021. My application has been selected out of nearly 1,500 applicants as one of the 21 global finalists across seven global regions. The awards fall into 3 categories: Professional Achievement Award, Entrepreneurial Award, and Social Impact Award. Each category has 7 finalists. One winner will be selected under each category. Announcement will be in September 2021.

It means a lot to me to reach this stage and get recognized for my work as an author and gender activist. It is an honor to be listed among all of these inspiring individuals representing 16 countries. I applied for this award back in October. At the time I received an email from University of Sussex, where I did my MA, congratulating last year award winner, who happened to be a University of Sussex Alumni as well. The results came in March, and announcements were made two weeks ago. The good thing is that we have two University of Sussex Alumni shortlisted for the social impact award this year. Me and Olusola Owonikoko, the found of Project Enable Africa which connects disabled people with job opportunities, entrepreneurial and employability skills. Wish him and other finalists a good luck!

I look back to the time I spent in the UK and the education I received. At the time I wanted to learn how to write better, and decided to do an MA in Creative Writing and Critical Thinking. And I remember how tough it was going back to school after 10 years of work and doing an MA in English Literature whereas my Bachelors was in Computer Science. I secured a Chevening Scholarship for my MA in 2012, and I didn’t want to fail. I did my best, and at the end graduated with a merit. The entire experience of living in the UK was fulfilling and changed me in so many ways. My education helped me expand my knowledge in western literature and critical thinking, shaping up the stories I worked on and published in the past few years.

Here is a short video done by the social media agency assigned to promote the finalists about me. Hope you enjoy watching it.
