  4. Bush held a “mission accomplished” press conference after killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians, occupying a country for six years and destroying millions of families. Did he expect to be greeted with roses? He has learned nothing. Nothing. Next stop for Bush, the dock at the International Criminal Court.

  5. <>“Muntadhar was revenging what Bush did for Iraq and Iraqi people.”<> – Thats the most pathetic comment possible. Irrelevant to the fact of whether or not the Bush administration deserves hatred for what happened. We might say that Muntadhar was expressing his anger. But to make that a revenge?! Thats very sad and ridiculous.

  6. Hi, I respect your opinion as obviously emotions run very highly about Mr Bush; but personally I have a very different perspective on this. I do not believe Al-Zaida is a hero at all, and frankly I think the amount of attention the media has placed on this incident is despicable. Let us not get distratced from the fact that people die in Iraq on a daily basis. (And btw, whatever happened to objective reporting???)Here’s a link to the article I wrote about the shoe-throwing:http://riverscrap.typepad.com/home/2008/12/iraqi-shoethrower-steals-limelight-from-suicide-bombers.htmlAll the best from London,M

  8. I am not surprised nor disheartened to see that an angry and passionate man threw a shoe at president of The United States. What I am upset at is that whether you personally attack or make fun of President Bush you are attacking the symbol and personal relationships of our entire country to the world. I personally did not vote for President bush but as long as he is the president of this country we need to give him respect. I have lost my best friend and a cousin to this war and yes it has been a frustrating time with these last years. All I hope for is that next time the leader of our nation (regardless of who you voted for) is being disrespected by non-americans, we defend him. RespectfullyJ

  12. Muntadhar al-Zaidi, 28, is a journalist, not a position with much power. As far as we know, he has never killed or caused suffering to anyone. George W. Bush, 52, is a lousy American President. As far as we know, he is a war criminal by any reasonable standards of international law. I am an American who doesn’t hate Bush the individual, but who hates what he has done to my country and to the world in 8 years through his greedy and arrogant acts while in an extremely powerful position. I want George W. Bush to be punished for his crimes, but he seems to be untouchable. Do I wish he could be tried in a court of law? Yes. If he cannot be tried in a court of law, preferably in The Hague before the World Court, would I like to see him shamed and humiliated for what he has done? Yes. Therefore, I say “Thank you for your courageous act, Muntadhar al-Zaidi. You have shown the world what a man of principle should do when a murderous criminal visits your shattered country seeking praise for his crimes. I only regret that the criminal ducked. By the way, you didn’t insult my country or me by your act. You expressed my own feelings of contempt for this man who sneers at the law and strips us of our constitutional rights.” For a few more days George W. Bush is our (disastrous) President, but he is certainly not our country.

I guess with everything else you have going on in Iraq right now… as terrible as it is and has been… America is trying to help you, not steal from you, or change your way of life except for the better. Clearly it looks like you don’t want this and instead wish to whine and cry and point fingers at everyone else once their backs are tuned (typical arab trait)and find your humor in the disrespect and suffering of others. Well, dear people, the day is coming when we won’t need or want your stinking oil anymore and once that happens and all your money runs out then you can gladly go back to the sand mounds and chop each other’s heads off like the dust and flea covered dogs you really are. I am proud to live in a safe and civilized country where life is good and beautiful and I’m free to go where I please, speak without fear. I don’t have to worry about the likes of you and your tribes and your thugs and your religious nuts trying to run and control my life. Laugh it up good, dear people. But who’s laughing at who, huh? In the end, who’ll be laughing at who? You think you’re suffering now? Just wait and see… you ain’t seen nothing yet! As the old saying goes… FUCK YOU!

  27. An American has left the below message in my blog, I salute all people with open minds. I think what the reporter did was disrespectful but this is what you get when you occupy a country and kill and displace 2 Million of its citizens!Dear Friends & Fellow Americans,Following Iraqi reporter Muntadar al-Zeidi's generous attempt to donate his shoes to visiting President “Shoeless George” Bush, I am encouraging my fellow loyal Americans to express their sympathy with al-Zeidi's selfless act by sending their spare shoes to Bush at the White House! Think of the impact if thousands of pairs of shoes arrive in the White House mail room, just in time for Christmas! I am sure the outgoing president will be overwhelmed by this heartfelt gesture of goodwill from his devoted and loyal constituents as his ship of state sails into the sunset.Zeidi's remarks, as interpreted by the U.S. Information Agency, were “Mr. President! As a gesture of gratitude for unearthing the WMD's hidden by the brutal dictator Saddam and liberating Iraq's widows and orphans from his bloody oppression, I give you the shoes off my feet! If they don't fit, please let your dog chew on them!” (Or words to that effect.)Al-Zeidi, who is being housed at U.S. taxpayer expense as a guest of honor in the Al-Ghraib Hilton, is reportedly unable to discuss his offering, due to the broken jaw he suffered at the hands of overly-enthusiastic Iraqi security guards celebrating his unprecedented act with misplaced “victory knuckle-bumps” to his face, solar plexus, kidneys and groin.Although his motives remain unclear, Fox News has stated that al-Zeidi was making an economic comment about his concern for the sorry state of the U.S. shoe-manufacturing industry, which is suffering from foreign competition. It is widely known that donating one's used shoes to a worthy cause is highly regarded act of charity in the Arab world. 8-PThe Secret Service has instituted a new policy that, for the rest of the Bush Administration, everyone attending a Bush press conference will be required to leave their shoes at the door. It is not clear whether this policy will be extended to the inauguration ceremony, however.“Shoes for industry! Shoes for peace! Shoes for industry! The Americans have given them an opportunity to build something good and yet they resort to bush league moves like this. This merely shows the intelligence on the Iraqi’s that there is so much support for an act like this. Once the oil is gone and you’ve squandered this opportunity to make something out of your country you’ll see who will be laughing then.

But Bush, Rumsfield, and Chenny have screwed the country and created ethnic divide and almost a civil war so that thier companies can make more money. It will be very naive to think that the main reason for invading Iraq was WMD, 9/11 and spreading democracy. Once the oil runs dry and I hope it does soon, America will be out of this region. Or else, idiots like Bush need to buy some shoe proof vests!

  31. I will address your ignorant comments one by one:1) “Maybe the Iraqi people would prefer to still be under the rule of Saddam Hussein” – Yes, the Iraqi people would absolutely and categorically rather be under the rule of Saddam Hussein than that of Bush or his puppet iraqi government. 2)”The Americans have given them an opportunity to build something good and yet they resort to bush league moves like this” – We do not need or want the Americans to give us any opportunity to do anything! We will not be patronised by anyone.3)”This merely shows the intelligence on the Iraqi’s that there is so much support for an act like this” – I am assuming that you are an American, and therefore you are in no position to comment on the intelligence of anyone! Particularly considering the sub-zero IQ of your poor excuse for a president. Iraq is full of intelligent, enlightened and highly educated people. The fake Iraqi government is not representative of the true Iraqi people – nor are their vile traitor security staff. 4) “Once the oil is gone and you’ve squandered this opportunity to make something out of your country you’ll see who will be laughing then” – The oil has been gone for a long time! It has been gone since you invaded us, it cannot possibly have escaped your notice that it was the oil itself that was your primary motive for your illegal war and invasion. Between you and the bunch of thieves trying to pass themselves off as the Iraqi government, Iraq has been robbed of everything. For your information, our country was the cradle of civilisation, it has given the world some of the most significant advances in mathematics, science, philosophy, art, music and many many more things, so believe me, we do NOT need you to ‘make something’ of our country. So, I repeat once again, Muntadhar Al-Zaidi is the biggest hero of our time. With regard to the last laugh – the whole world has been laughing at that idiot Bush for years, somehow I don’t think that cowering while being pelted with shoes will suddenly improve his image!

  32. All these Americans who claim that while they do not like Bush they must support “their President” and are therefore outraged at the shoe incident: you fools. Would you blindly support your president if he was called Adolf Hitler? The problems are 1) As a nation, “Americans” voted Bush in for a second term, so you collectively are responsible for his actions 2) If the American nation had shown its contempt for the Neo-Con ideology and its leaders instead of saying that you must always “support your President” and had demonstrated in the streets as you did as a nation during the Vietnam war then things would not have continued in this vein. Your lack of questioning your leaders is your downfall. Your compliant acceptance of Neo-Con lobbies is your responsibility. As a nation the Americans are one of the least intelligent and worst educated people on this planet, as least as far as “worldly knowledge” is concerned. Don’t blame your media – if you as a nation wanted to change your biased media reporting, you could. It is in your hands. Also, don’t you dare claim to have liberated Iraq; you after all kept Saddam Husein in power. You seem to quickly forget all the images of your leaders smiling while shaking Saddam’s hands and supplying him with all the weapons he used against the peoples of the Middle East. You as a nation have no right to accuse anyone of anything, look in your own house first at your rotten values and the stench of your actions against the peoples of the world. Look at your history of eliminating democracies around the world (Iran, South American countries, etc); look at your history of supporting dictators around the world (Iraq, Middle Eastern countries, South American countries, etc) and then see what a bunch of hypocrites you and your leaders (who YOU, as a nation, voted for) are.

If all the above happened, I’m sure the Americans will not greet the Mexican president with flowers, go figure it out.As for your comment “In the mean time, enjoy your time blowing up those that may have a different religious view. Allah would be proud” you make it sound like the 2 Billion Muslims out there to kill you and God knows who else, you tend to forget that the Middle East have Christian and Muslim Arabs livining side by side for the past 1500 years, actualy why don’t you ask the owner of this Blog about Christians in Jordan and the Arab World. Your comment about us blowing ourselves is irrelevant and ratial, it is true that some freaks have hijacked Islam to kill in the name of God, but Hitler, Timothy McVey, Hagana group, Ligrun group, Aum Shinrikyo, Army of God, Aryan Nations, Ku Klux Klan, are all extremist groups who killed in the name of Christianity, Judasim and God. Media in the US has given a great deal of misleading the US audience about other cultures, relegions and international events, and has done a good job in showing a negative image of Arabs and Muslims on TV and movies, why dont you check this book “Reel Bad Arabs” by Jack Shaheen.Cheers, Peace

  36. I would love to know where you all get the number that America has killed 500k / 1 Millions Arabs. You are aware that the suicide bombers are the ones killing people right now, right? Or has your twisted logic just that into blaming America too? In American, an individual of any religion is welcome anywhere. In Iraq, and many other Arab nation, worshiping Christianity will get you killed. What a lovely culture you have. Also, in history there have been rare account of individuals killing others in the name of Christianity, but you will also notice that we’ve also stood up and spoke out and fought against it. When was the last time you ever saw a story about an Muslim speaking against Jihad? I agree that your religion has been high jacked. I don’t believe this is who you are as a whole. However I am ashamed of you all for not fighting out against it. Islam is the religion of choice for Terrorist. Islam will forever been known for that. It’s okay if you want to ignore all the good America does in the world. Feel free to ignore the fact that we are always the #1 contribute of relief supplies to any nation in the event of crisis (including to our enemies), ignore the AIDS research/relieve we’ve done in Africa, ignore the technological contributions we’ve made to the word (include the invention of the Internet). When was the last time any Arab nation did anything? Oh yea.. you guys pump oil. Hmm.. I guess that’s about it. I love how those that pump the oil are the richest people in the world, yet everyone else in the country lives in near poverty. You are all such a glowing example to the world.BTW, Iraq was never about oil. Stop believing the propaganda. Do you honestly think we would spend billions of dollars to save a few pennies on gas? Iraq was about Saddam. We, and the world, honestly believed he had WMDs. He bluffed well, we bought it, we were wrong. However, we weren’t about to destroy your country and just leave. That is why we are there and trying to help you setup a democratic gov’t. Call it a puppet gov’t if you want, but do remember that you elect your own leaders. Your future is in your hands. We’re are withdrawing our troops, as your police/military stand up. (*note*, I do have much respect for the police/military/the some of the politicians they have impressed me during this difficult time). If it weren’t for the suicide bombers, the we would have been long gone. The thing about a democracy is that you control your future 100%. You are no longer forced to have the same leader forever, as times change and politicians fall out of favor, then you elect new ones. Term limits help (somewhat) to keep corruption down).

  37. On a side note about Iraq…We know that America is hated throughout the Arab world. It’s mainly because everyone likes to blame all their problems on the biggest target, and any situation can be spun for whatever outcome. America does a lot of good in the Arab world, which I’m sure never gets reported. Honestly, we don’t care all that much either. You are very oppressed, hopefully one day it will change. Even those that claim to ‘hate’ America would still love to move to America. And we welcome you and the chance to show you who we really are.Anyway.. the point of the post was supposed to be about Iraq. Before the war, we didn’t give 2 flips about the middle east. We didn’t know anything about you. Sure, Saddam took great pleasure in torture and mass killings, but it wasn’t on our local news broadcast (nor anyone’s broadcast). That all changed when we invaded Iraq. When our troops invaded Iraq, we finally got to see Iraqis for who they really are. We saw the Sunni/Shia/Kurd tensions, we saw how you all were just fighting to make it day by day, we saw how the majority of you were very respectable people. It would be safe to say that much of America feel in love with Iraq. We didn’t want anything to happen to you. On our nightly news broadcast, we would get a running tally of how many American soldiers were killed in an attack as well as Iraqi civilians. Whenever we would accidentally kill civilians, there would be a public outcry. That is why we try to only use very precise gps/laser/etc bombs. No one here wants the war to continue, everyone wants the troops to come home. However, we also don’t want to turn our back on the Iraqis and lets the extremist take over. You see the situation we are in? We obviously care more for you than you do for us. That is why it angers us when people throw shoes at our president, or a suicide bomber kills innocents at a market. Whenever anything bad happens, you blame America instead of the person that ignited the bomb. Best case, America’s long term goal was to be able to view Iraq as a brother in the middle east. They would open our eyes to what is it to be Muslim, and we could open their eyes to what it is to be American. This will not happen through military might. This will only happen via strong political leaders on both sides. We just need a sign. You will always have a friend in America. If you put your hand out, we will quickly put ours out as well. I would love the day when I can walk freely down a street in Iraq without the fear of getting shot. It’s not unheard of. Look at Japan. They bombed us and pulled us into WWII. We eventually dropped 2 nukes on them which helped bring an end of the war. Neither side if proud of their actions, but both sides now have deep respect for one another. American views the Japanese and a very respectful and honorable people. It is not uncommon for us to visit each others war memorials and bows our heads in a sign of respect and contemplation. Time heals all wounds I suppose.

I know that most comments werent meant to me directly, but more of a demonstration of some anger of some people who felt offended by the incident. My answer is mainly for the last anonymous.I think that people should start to differenciate between nations and leaders. The whole Iraqi war wasn’t meant to rescue the Iraqi people as many Americans want to believe. There are many other people around the world who are suffering under dictatorships, war is not the answer. Sure, we do appreciate the work of the American all over the world. We appreciate the American Aid and the American people in different aspects, but no we don’t appreciate when some people holding the top positions in the American country start messing around with the lives of people in an arrogant and ignorant policy to achieve some personal benefits.Yes the oil argument is bullshit when you take America as a nation. In reality your country have lost billions in this war. Who won? It oil and military factory owners – Bushes family and strong business men in relationship with Bush administration. Some American commeters here are not offended, in the contrary this is what they feel about Bush. They would throw their shoe on him themselves, that is because they know that he decieved them more than he decieved anyone else. American people and Iraqi people are victims here of bad leadership. Why can’t we see that a trust the goodness of the nations of both sides?

I googled them, and it came back with a construction company. If that is what you are talking about, then what is your point? The US is paying to fix what we broke, you have a problem with that? There are construction firms from all over the world in Iraq. Irony: US says they will reduce troops as the violence lessens (which they have). Extremist complain about the US presence and blow up themselves/others/buildings in protest. Honest question for any truly in the know. When the war started, Iraqs b*tched and moaned about the US damaging Mosque because they were holy. However, when footage of extremist shooting at troops and setting bombs in mosques were shown, no one said anything. Why?My guess…. I think Iraqis are scared. They will yell at America because they know we will respect their wishes. They say nothing to those truly killing them out of fear. Remember this when we leave and you are left in the hands of the extremist. This is why I am saddened for the Iraq’s, and greatly respect the braves soles that have stood up against the extemists. The Iraqis committed no offense against the United States to warrant such brutality, The US did not even have the decency to make a declaration of war outlining any offense. What they are doing now is illegal, and demonic. I for one look forward to the day when God will avenge the children of Shem, the Chaldeans, for this wicked crime. Christ have mercy on us, grant us repentance, and when judgement falls on us, grant us the courage to bear it in a manly fashion. Amen
