I am not surprised nor disheartened to see that an angry and passionate man threw a shoe at president of The United States. What I am upset at is that whether you personally attack or make fun of President Bush you are attacking the symbol and personal relationships of our entire country to the world. I personally did not vote for President bush but as long as he is the president of this country we need to give him respect. I have lost my best friend and a cousin to this war and yes it has been a frustrating time with these last years. As far as we know, he is a war criminal by any reasonable standards of international law. I am an American who doesn’t hate Bush the individual, but who hates what he has done to my country and to the world in 8 years through his greedy and arrogant acts while in an extremely powerful position. I am a Military Officer who has fought in combat operations in Afghanistan. I have helped kill many taliban in order to support the legitmate, elected government of Afghanistan. Yet even I clearly see that President Bush is a war criminal for his illegal invasion of Iraq. President Bush deserved this dishonour. On a side note about Iraq…We know that America is hated throughout the Arab world. It’s mainly because everyone likes to blame all their problems on the biggest target, and any situation can be spun for whatever outcome. America does a lot of good in the Arab world, which I’m sure never gets reported. Honestly, we don’t care all that much either. You are very oppressed, hopefully one day it will change. Even those that claim to ‘hate’ America would still love to move to America. We didn’t know anything about you. Sure, Saddam took great pleasure in torture and mass killings, but it wasn’t on our local news broadcast (nor anyone’s broadcast). That all changed when we invaded Iraq. When our troops invaded Iraq, we finally got to see Iraqis for who they really are. We saw the Sunni/Shia/Kurd tensions, we saw how you all were just fighting to make it day by day, we saw how the majority of you were very respectable people. It would be safe to say that much of America feel in love with Iraq. We didn’t want anything to happen to you. On our nightly news broadcast, we would get a running tally of how many American soldiers were killed in an attack as well as Iraqi civilians. Whenever we would accidentally kill civilians, there would be a public outcry. That is why we try to only use very precise gps/laser/etc bombs. No one here wants the war to continue, everyone wants the troops to come home. However, we also don’t want to turn our back on the Iraqis and lets the extremist take over. You see the situation we are in? We obviously care more for you than you do for us. That is why it angers us when people throw shoes at our president, or a suicide bomber kills innocents at a market. Whenever anything bad happens, you blame America instead of the person that ignited the bomb. Best case, America’s long term goal was to be able to view Iraq as a brother in the middle east. They would open our eyes to what is it to be Muslim, and we could open their eyes to what it is to be American. This will not happen through military might. This will only happen via strong political leaders on both sides. We just need a sign. You will always have a friend in America. If you put your hand out, we will quickly put ours out as well. I would love the day when I can walk freely down a street in Iraq without the fear of getting shot. It’s not unheard of. Look at Japan. They bombed us and pulled us into WWII. We eventually dropped 2 nukes on them which helped bring an end of the war. Neither side if proud of their actions, but both sides now have deep respect for one another. American views the Japanese and a very respectful and honorable people. It is not uncommon for us to visit each others war memorials and bows our heads in a sign of respect and contemplation. I am not surprised nor disheartened to see that an angry and passionate man threw a shoe at president of The United States. What I am upset at is that whether you personally attack or make fun of President Bush you are attacking the symbol and personal relationships of our entire country to the world. I personally did not vote for President bush but as long as he is the president of this country we need to give him respect. Muntadhar al-Zaidi, 28, is a journalist, not a position with much power. As far as we know, he has never killed or caused suffering to anyone. George W. Bush, 52, is a lousy American President. As far as we know, he is a war criminal by any reasonable standards of international law. I am an American who doesn’t hate Bush the individual, but who hates what he has done to my country and to the world in 8 years through his greedy and arrogant acts while in an extremely powerful position. I want George W. Bush to be punished for his crimes, but he seems to be untouchable. Do I wish he could be tried in a court of law? Yes. If he cannot be tried in a court of law, preferably in The Hague before the World Court, would I like to see him shamed and humiliated for what he has done? Yes. Therefore, I say “Thank you for your courageous act, Muntadhar al-Zaidi. You have shown the world what a man of principle should do when a murderous criminal visits your shattered country seeking praise for his crimes. I only regret that the criminal ducked. By the way, you didn’t insult my country or me by your act. I am a Military Officer who has fought in combat operations in Afghanistan. I have helped kill many taliban in order to support the legitmate, elected government of Afghanistan. Yet even I clearly see that President Bush is a war criminal for his illegal invasion of Iraq. President Bush deserved this dishonour. Al-Zaidi should be commended for his bravery in voicing the suffering of all the Iraqi people. Well done.

This act represents the depth of frustration the world feels as a result of the Bush administration and his acts of injustice. Although many can argue about the fact that this man was a journalist and should have expressed his personal frustration in a more civilized method. But Bush, Rumsfield, and Chenny have screwed the country and created ethnic divide and almost a civil war so that thier companies can make more money. On a side note about Iraq…We know that America is hated throughout the Arab world. It’s mainly because everyone likes to blame all their problems on the biggest target, and any situation can be spun for whatever outcome. America does a lot of good in the Arab world, which I’m sure never gets reported. Honestly, we don’t care all that much either. You are very oppressed, hopefully one day it will change. Even those that claim to ‘hate’ America would still love to move to America. And we welcome you and the chance to show you who we really are.Anyway.. the point of the post was supposed to be about Iraq. Before the war, we didn’t give 2 flips about the middle east. We didn’t know anything about you. Sure, Saddam took great pleasure in torture and mass killings, but it wasn’t on our local news broadcast (nor anyone’s broadcast). That all changed when we invaded Iraq. When our troops invaded Iraq, we finally got to see Iraqis for who they really are. We saw the Sunni/Shia/Kurd tensions, we saw how you all were just fighting to make it day by day, we saw how the majority of you were very respectable people. It would be safe to say that much of America feel in love with Iraq. We didn’t want anything to happen to you. On our nightly news broadcast, we would get a running tally of how many American soldiers were killed in an attack as well as Iraqi civilians. Whenever we would accidentally kill civilians, there would be a public outcry. That is why we try to only use very precise gps/laser/etc bombs. No one here wants the war to continue, everyone wants the troops to come home. However, we also don’t want to turn our back on the Iraqis and lets the extremist take over. You see the situation we are in? We obviously care more for you than you do for us. That is why it angers us when people throw shoes at our president, or a suicide bomber kills innocents at a market. Whenever anything bad happens, you blame America instead of the person that ignited the bomb. Best case, America’s long term goal was to be able to view Iraq as a brother in the middle east. They would open our eyes to what is it to be Muslim, and we could open their eyes to what it is to be American. This will not happen through military might. This will only happen via strong political leaders on both sides. We just need a sign. You will always have a friend in America. If you put your hand out, we will quickly put ours out as well. I would love the day when I can walk freely down a street in Iraq without the fear of getting shot. It’s not unheard of. Look at Japan. They bombed us and pulled us into WWII. We eventually dropped 2 nukes on them which helped bring an end of the war. Neither side if proud of their actions, but both sides now have deep respect for one another. American views the Japanese and a very respectful and honorable people. It is not uncommon for us to visit each others war memorials and bows our heads in a sign of respect and contemplation. Time heals all wounds I suppose.

I know that most comments werent meant to me directly, but more of a demonstration of some anger of some people who felt offended by the incident. My answer is mainly for the last anonymous.I think that people should start to differenciate between nations and leaders. The whole Iraqi war wasn’t meant to rescue the Iraqi people as many Americans want to believe. There are many other people around the world who are suffering under dictatorships, war is not the answer. Sure, we do appreciate the work of the American all over the world. We appreciate the American Aid and the American people in different aspects, but no we don’t appreciate when some people holding the top positions in the American country start messing around with the lives of people in an arrogant and ignorant policy to achieve some personal benefits.Yes the oil argument is bullshit when you take America as a nation. In reality your country have lost billions in this war. Who won? It oil and military factory owners – Bushes family and strong business men in relationship with Bush administration. Some American commeters here are not offended, in the contrary this is what they feel about Bush. They would throw their shoe on him themselves, that is because they know that he decieved them more than he decieved anyone else. American people and Iraqi people are victims here of bad leadership. Why can’t we see that a trust the goodness of the nations of both sides?

There are construction firms from all over the world in Iraq. Irony: US says they will reduce troops as the violence lessens (which they have). Extremist complain about the US presence and blow up themselves/others/buildings in protest. Honest question for any truly in the know. When the war started, Iraqs b*tched and moaned about the US damaging Mosque because they were holy. However, when footage of extremist shooting at troops and setting bombs in mosques were shown, no one said anything. Why?My guess…. I think Iraqis are scared. They will yell at America because they know we will respect their wishes. They say nothing to those truly killing them out of fear. Remember this when we leave and you are left in the hands of the extremist. This is why I am saddened for the Iraq’s, and greatly respect the braves soles that have stood up against the extemists. Muntadhar al-Zaide's act of throwing a shoe at George Bush was prophetic. It heralds the end of the Hegemony of Mordor on the Potomac. We Americans are impoverished, and we have not the wisdom to know it. In the act of destroying Iraq and Afganistan, America, the Great Adversary has ensured its own ultimate demise. al-Zaide's people have been brutally murdered and hideously misused. The Iraqis committed no offense against the United States to warrant such brutality, The US did not even have the decency to make a declaration of war outlining any offense. What they are doing now is illegal, and demonic. I for one look forward to the day when God will avenge the children of Shem, the Chaldeans, for this wicked crime. This Criminal Regime has brought the Curse near to my children – for that I will never forgive them. Christ have mercy on us, grant us repentance, and when judgement falls on us, grant us the courage to bear it in a manly fashion. Amen
